Ramadhan Seif Kajembe was a Kenyan politician. He was a member of the Orange Democratic Movement and was elected to represent the Changamwe Constituency in the National Assembly of Kenya from 1997 to 2013, first as a KANU member under whose ticket he beat Kennedy Kiliku, then in (2002) as a NARC-Kenya member, and later under ODM before ending his political career as an independent candidate.
After losing his Changamwe seat in 2013, the late Kajembe vied for the position of Mombasa senator, losing to Hassan Sarai, and again tried as comeback as MP for Jomvu in 2017 as an independent candidate. He also served as assistant minister for Environment and Natural Resources and later as chairman of the board of Kenya Ferry Services.
Prior to this, he had served as councilor for Mikindani Ward, first between 1979-1983, and again between 1988-1992.
He passed away due to COVID-related complications at Pandya Memorial Hospital within the same year after losing his two wives Zaharia and Aziza, the latter only a few weeks before his death. His son, Seif Kajembe who had tried to succeed him as Changamwe MP in 203 under an ODM ticket passed away in 2017 of kidney failure while in India for treatment. Badi Twalib, Kajembe’s son-in-law vied successfully for the same seat under a Wiper Democratic Party ticket.
Kajembe was buried at Kwa Shee Muslim cemetery next to Aziza, his wife.
Kajembe is among a crop of politicians that included Kennedy Kiliku, Said Hemed, Shariff Nassir and former Tourism minister Karisa Maitha, who, for years, were a force to reckon with in coastal politics.
